This guru purnima you think about discipleship & do not sing praises of guru. Guru is always complete so stop talking about him. Introspect and analyse yourself and find out your own defects & weaknesses and try to become a good disciple. Try to light a candle inside your heart instead of searching light outside. You, all are yoga practioners not disciples; strive to become one by following Swamiji’s example.
Swami Satyananda gave two gifts to the world; one is Bihar School of Yoga i.e an institution; the other is Rikhia Peeth which is an ashram. It is in Rikhia Peeth that Swamiji spent his time to follow and established essence of his guru’s (Swami Shivananda) teachings (seva, pyar & daan) in practical form. Here in Rikhia Peeth you see faith & surrender in abundance which is the only way to connect to guru’s grace.
Guru’s grace is flowing in abundance during this guru poornima only you have to remove the veil of impurities. Your Ego (Ahamkar) is a very big hurdle in receiving the grace of the guru. Guru is like water, you get grace according to the size of your vessel (big or small). So this guru poornima you increase your patrata(receiving capability) by surrendering more and more to the guru. Cultivate faith in guru by serving more and more.
The service here is not ordinary but it removes the hard coating of your ego. Carry this inspiration home and practice it there also. You will derive immense happiness by serving others. Many people sweep floor here in Rikhia Peeth but their ego does not let them do it at home.
Guru is like an electric current which lights all bulbs if the wire is good conductor. You have to become good conductor by twin methods of faith and surrender. It is in the disciple’s hand to become a zero watt bulb or 1000 watts bulb. There are knots in a flute which have to be removed to play it. Similarly, there are knots inside you which have to be removed by faith and surrender. How can you increase your faith and surrender? Keep coming to Rikhia Peeth as much as possible. Live in the unpolluted atmosphere and serve selflessly. You will develop these twin requisites of spirituality.
Asana is for body, Pranayama is for regulating prana, and Meditation is for mind. These are preliminaries for spiritual life. They can help you to manage yourself in a better way. Ashram life is a must for spiritual evolution and shri Swami ji has established Rikhia Peeth for this very purpose. I have seen Swami Satsangi evolving while she was living with shri Swami ji. She has let her guru transform her. She now has become a strong transmitter for her guru’ energy. She has allowed her guru to remove her knots and become empty. When she emptied herself then only shri Swami ji gave her the title of “Rikhia Peethadishwari.” Though she is a strict disciplinarian yet she is very loving and affectionate at heart. The programmes of Rikhia Peeth are her inspiration.
I thought that Swami ji has given us a concrete live model to follow and mould ourselves to ascend the ladder of spirituality. Now it is up to all of us whether we can become true disciple or not? Now it is up to all of us whether we can connect with guru’s energy and become his transmitters like Swami Satsangi. I bow my head in reverence to such gurus who teach by example and not by sheer preaching.
