Yoga, also is one of my greatest passion I love to practise each and every aspect of this wonderful science with a spirit of experimentation. Modern children are generally quite intelligent; they are more likely to believe in their own experiences rather than oral teachings of great saints.
“Faith has its limitations;Belief has its limitations;Discovery has no limitation.”-Swami Satyananda
Since I fully realize the deep and lasting effect of one’s own experience, I put a lot of stress on experimentations which children love. They themselves are amazed by their own discoveries. Spirituality is nothing but replacing virtues by vices when put in very simple terms.
Yoga today is a very very powerful tool for sowing the seed of spirituality in the young minds which will make them confident, happy and successful. It will enable them to become better individuals. By chance I got an opportunity to impart yoga education to many children. As children love nature they were made aware of all the bounties of nature around them. E.g. in Tree pose children imagine they are trees and stand on one foot. The mental balance increases tremendously in this practice; at the same time, they enjoy it immensely because many of them keep falling due to loss of balance. All others and the affected child laugh off at himself. Moving their hands like branches of trees, imagining that the wind is blowing takes their young imaginative minds to a new flight of creativity. Closing their eyes and becoming aware of their own bodies also help them to connect themselves with their inner self.
Various games like ‘cat and mouse’ game were enjoyed very much. As they thought of the cat that doesn’t have a mother to cook her food; they felt deeply blessed for having loving and caring parents. The relaxation and visualization of body parts enables them to realize the inner and deeper aspects of their personality.
Yog nidra is also enjoyed immensely by the children of all ages. Many of them experimented with the power of Sankalpa taken during Yog nidra and found it absolutely true. This gave them a powerful tool by which they could control their lives by themselves. Now they could improve their weak points and strengthen their minds.
The modern children are very much overloaded by different pressures on them due to the increasing influence of westernization. Different practices of Yoga can easily put a balm on their sore and damaged psyche and help them to heal themselves internally. As Surya Namaskar is very dynamic, children love it and do it with a zeal which is surprising even to them.
Our age old Indian traditions of mantra chanting have taken a back seat now a days. When I explained the scientific angle of vibrations of different mantras and the energy generated by them; children did them with zeal. Their calm minds kept them happy throughout the day. As the inner confidence increases they are able to take charge of their own lives; definitely opting virtues over vices and make India a better, prosperous and proud nation.
