Our mind most of the times is dissipated in 101 thoughts or works i.e. chanchal always. With such a mind how can one perform any work perfectly. With students it becomes a nuisance because as soon as they sit to study, their mind wanders here and there. They can’t concentrates, hence, can’t perform well in their lives.
Yoga paves a way for step wise training of mind so that it becomes one pointed and helps students to gain success not only in succeeding exams but also in any endeavour; they take up in there lives. Though asanas may seem to be physical workouts but when practiced under the eagle eye of a trained teacher with concentration on breath with each movement, they set the ground for training of mind. Asanas relax mind completely when done with counting & breath concentration. One becomes aware of one’s mind and most important its wanderings. As one becomes aware of ill effects of mind’s dissipated nature, one makes conscious effort to train mind to become one pointed.
Pranayama when done slowly with counting and breath awareness trains the mind to focus on one point. There is no need to spend more than 10 minutes daily on pranayana. Nadishodhan and brahmare pranayama are two very effective pranayamas from which students benefit greatly. They regulate the energy flow and relax the mind greatly.
Tratak is another powerful yogic kriya which trains the mind if done regularly for 10 minutes at one time daily on the same picture. If done with faith regularly one gets amazed at one’s own achievements and experiences.
Various yogic games also relax the mind completely and its grasp increases considerably. Chanting of ‘OM’ (which is a cosmic sound) provides mind a sound which can become a strong base for the mind to rest upon. One can bring the mind back to that base, as soon as it starts wandering.
Yog nidra ( a small meditation of 10 – 15 minutes) relaxes the students completely and deeply. When all these practices are followed regularly the mind gradually learns to focus itself that gives rise to concentration. A relaxed mind ensures effective learning and quick recall of learnt marerial which is so very essential for students to perform well.
