The young generation, today is highly confused. Due to ever increasing pressure of modernization their inner intellect is crumbling. The desire to be successful only materialistically is their only aim. Even if many of them are blessed to have noble aims like selfless service, their family members dissuade them. And thinking that “may be I am wrong” they drop that noble aim. Selfishness is very much in fashion today. Simple courtesies like helping an old person, sick or needy are ridiculed by a large number of people. Even the elders and old people have changed their opinion drastically. Morality is all time low the mad race of grabbing a profession and earning a lot of money to achieve happiness and place is the sole aim of the young today. Due to modern means of communication especially television the confusion has aggravated many folds.
Religion has become a source of thriving business today. The exposure of fake gurus, preachers on television has polluted the minds of one and all. The television is definitely serving and enlightening the public by making them aware of false practices, superstitions of so called dharma pracharaks.different religious channels like Sanskar, Aastha, Jagran are also doing quite well job. But these channels are also flashing lot of advertisements which many times dissuade the observer from watching them. Commercialization has affected these channels and is increasing as their popularity increase. Moreover many young children do not opt to watch such channels. The very mention of such names bring humorous smiles on their faces and they instantly co-relate with old age.Sprituality is not related with any religion.
“Spirituality is related to the transformation of inner personality from selfish to selfless.”
                                                                                                     -Swami Sivananda
When we think and brood only about our self a lot negative feelings like tension, worry, anger, fear manifest in our being, most of us concentrate on our weaknesses only. And gradually when this process continues for a long period of time, depression sets in and a person loses his mental balance. Many of the youngsters are finding solace in psychiatric treatment and have become dependent on medicines at such a young age. What an irony! What a pity! What are adults doing? By pushing pressuring the youngsters for so called higher aims which can yield a lot of money,

Every individual is a sum total of strength and weaknesses. And in this life time our prime aim must be to become aware of our own inner personality.
Yoga is a very strong science which can greatly help one in becoming aware of one self. When we become aware of our weaknesses, inspite of getting disturbed by them, we must learn to accept them. After acceptance comes the stage of improvement upon them by eradicating those negative qualities. But I must say that it is a very very gradual process. A lot of patience, sincerity and hard work are required over a long period of time. In a garden, weeds keep on growing with being sown and unless and until they are completely uprooted, a healthy plant cannot grow.Similarly; a human being has to uproot his weaknesses, negativity continuously, consciously, carefully. On the other hand one must also become aware of ones own strengths. Strengths must be kept in mind to improve ones self confidence. Working on highlighting ones own strengths enable an individual to realize ones own inner true potential.
“There is divinity in each one of us.”
                                                              -Swami Sivananda
The manifestation of divine may be lesser in a criminal but it definitely is there. So with the full awareness of ones own good points. One can keep ones morale high during the times of depression, failures. By focusing on our strenghs, we also gradually can have the path of selecting an aim which is suited to our own personality. An aim which we want to achieve. A profession which gives inner happiness, contentment and enjoyment to us is also enjoyed immensely by us. All of us have different values, dreams in life and secretly we want those dreams come true. So many times due to confusions we let go our dreams which may be noble.
Let us all enable ourselves to explore our own inner selves. Choose and select aims according to our own values and dreams by becoming aware of our own strengths and weaknesses. Money is important in life for living a comfortable life but it is not the end of all. Money earned by immoral ways can never give happiness and peace. It is a call to the young generation, do not run blindly after money.Donot imbibe the values of others. India is great country of high moral values. The rich heritage of high moral values is acknowledged all over the world. Indian saints like Vivekananda have established the values of peace, happiness and selflessness not only by preaching but by practicing it in their own lives. Let us all strive to become selfless along with achievement of our aims in life. A little selflessness practiced daily brings a lot of virtues. Negativity can not blur the vision of a virtuous individual. And God! He can not abstain from showering His graces.
“There has to be a balance in life .You have to have as much devotion for God as you have craving for enjoyment. Enjoy the world as much as you can, but side by side give as much devotion to God as possible”                                                                                            -Swami Satyananda

Dependence A Curse

Every one wants to be independent. Each human being is born with unique personality. All of us have our aims. Desires and dreams those aims are our own Dreams are very much golden for us which we want to achieve. In the core of one, s being, each one wants to live the life one’ s own way. But it is not always possible. Unfavorable circumstances are big obstacle for the majority of us. How many of us are courageous to resist the temptations we encounter on the way? With the first blast of opposition our resolves start crumbling down. Only a few brave and bold people can tread the path of making their dreams come true. Adversity makes one strong. If with a positive stroke and faith in one’ s own conviction, one pursues his noble aim, god comes to his help. The need of the hour is to stick to one’ s faith with courage and determination. I strongly feel that everyone should aspire to become independent in each and every field of life. Dependence many times creates a sense of helplessness. It also encourages the other person to exploit, humiliate the dependent. God has given us a healthy body, mind and spirit. But how many of us are able to maintain our body and mind healthy? By indiscriminate choice of foods, both physical and mental, our whole being is polluted. Consuming fast foods like pizzas/ burgers, maida product, various chemicals in the form of preservatives and cold drinks has become fashionable. Chocolates and toffees are consumed generously especially by youngsters. Thanks to advertising which has become a big booming business today. Unhealthy mental food, in the form of soap operas full of venom is favorite diet of not only youngsters but also of adults. Even old people are not spared of this big modern malady. The onset of diseases like kidney failure, diabetes blood pressure, heart attacks start in the prime of youth. The majority of youngsters and adults today are becoming dependent more and on medicines. Where is the time for cooking healthy food? Where is the time for yoga? All multinational companies are trying to serve physical fitness to their employees in the form of gyms or yoga classes. But are they much effective? Meditation and yoga have become a craze today. It is in fashion. But how many have the tenacity, courage, and perseverance to practice even simple Asanas and Pranayama? The remotes of Television make one feel like a king and unwillingly precious time wasted. Nothing can replace the peace and happiness derived from physical and mental fitness. Choosing yoga can avert the tide of severest physical and mental problem. Depression, Tension, Aggression, Anxieties, Worries weaken one and mental and physical imbalances follow. The drugs alone can not uplift a person from the deep pit of depression. Many youngsters are seeking the help of psychiatrist for mental insanity. What a pity: they are addicted either to medicines or drinks and smoking. These addictions provide a sense of high, only temporarily causing a major epidemic today. And from where will body derive its energy? From all these negative emotions? Like the two opposite ends of rive we are unable to acthieve happiness and contentment. Floating in the river of unhappiness which is one’s own creation precious life is wasted. let us all strive to become independent and happy. A strong will power is attainable by regular, sincere effort. When the body becomes healthy and mind tranquil, how can we not achieve our golden dreams, aims and revel in the happiness of our own achievements. “ I know that I am untouchable to the forces as long as I have a direction an aim, a goal to serve to love and to give. Strength lies in the magnification of the secret qualities of my own personality, my own character, and though I am only a messenger, I am me.

Determination is the most important element of success. Success in both material and spiritual world is the out come of this vital element know as determination ‘How funny’. Many of us miss on this important turning point of our lives. Once the mind is set to achieve; firmly determined; a person sticks to his convictions. A determined mind has the power to over come all the obstacles which come in its way.

“When the mind is set; all obstacles are over come with courage and determination; Then God approaches that person and helps him succeed.”

Some people are fortunate and are born with this great quality of determination. They are the people who succeed in what ever field they set their eyes upon. But this simple yet powerful quality can be easily cultivated by taking one step at a time. One can always start with small goals. When these small goals are achieved even if with much effort; these achievements become motivating force. The high an achiever feels cannot be compared to any other thing in the world. The need of hour is to have full faith in one’s own abilities i.e. accepting one’s strengths and make full use of them. Acceptance of one’s own weaknesses is equally important because then only a person can realistically set goals and aspire for them. Paramhansa Swami Niranjanananda Saraswati has given the formula of SWAN. ‘S’ stands for strength ‘W’ stands for weaknesses. ‘A’ stands for ambitions ‘N, stands for need.

So making a balance between all these four factors and determining to overcome one’s weaknesses slowly and gradually; becoming aware of too high set ambition; one can concentrate on one’s true need. There is no elevator to success. One has to climb each step with determination, courage and will power.

Tenacity, Sincerity and Perseverance and are three prerequisites are essential to succeed in any field of life. Life is full of ups and downs. Some times circumstances are favourable and success comes on
its own without much effort, then our happiness knows no bounds. But at other times in spite of a lot of hard work, success keeps on eluding us. Too much excitement and two much depression is the result of such outcome. Both the situations are harmful for physical and mental state. Over excitement leads to over confidence and we tend to relax in such circumstances. Many a times the goal becomes secondary and a lot of time and effort is thus wasted. Many people tend to lose track in such cases and fall victim to flatterers also. These selfish flatterers are fair father friends and such the gullible person like a leech on the other hand with failure comes shock, anxieties, worries and a lot of depression. Depression makes one physically and mentally inert. A lot of precious time and energy is thus wasted in sheer effort of coming out of that state. In Greta, lord Krishna has again and life maintain inner balance. God is all-powerful. Revel in His will. A person has control over his actions to some extending, but the result is totally our of his reach. Destiny plays an important role in our life. In the face of adds one has to assert One's will power.
Adversity makes one stronger. In order to achiever success such odds must be conquered with courage. When we tread the difficulties with tenacity, sincerity and perseverance no aim is distant, no goal unachievable. The only important thing in life is not to lose faith in one's own innate capabilities and potential. Though hurdles and obstacles may seem unsurmountable initially, but as one process, follows one's own conviction with faith and trust in God, the success do comes. The need of the hour is to stick to the path one has chow seen with sincerity.
"God helps those, who help themselves."

DISCOVER YOUR TRUE POTENTIAL

In the modern age of science and technology, faith is all time low. Hypocrisy, falsehood is prevalent widely. Today’s man is confused internally, whom to believe and whom not to believe. Intellect says one thing and the heart guides another thing. And in such dilemma many of us fall in deep pit of depression. There are many more cases of depression today than there were in previous times. Especially the youngsters are gripped in the clutches of anxieties, worries, and unfavorable comparisons.
With so much negativity is ones inner being, how one can think straight let alone think positive. The first and foremost requirement today is to get rid of this unnecessary baggage of false prestige and false parameters of success. An individual who is rolling in money or possessing a lot of educational degrees is thought to be the perfect role model, and successful. But is the life all about money? Money is definitely important to some extent to fulfill the basic necessities of life but it is not the end all.
The need of the hour is to introspect oneself deeply and sincerely. And introspection is only possible in a calm state of mind where there is no turbulence and negativity. Yoga has come as a breath of fresh air to enable a person to come out of his quagmire of confusions. Various asanas stabilize the pranashakti in the different parts of the body. As asanas are done slowly, gently with concentration on breath, they induce a deep mental relaxation. The counting ensures mental concentration. If yoga is learnt from a trained, devoted, selfless yoga teacher, it leads to physical and mental health.
Patience and sincerity are the two full gist of yoga. Most of the people learn yoga to cure the physical diseases for a few days or months and they quit practicing it after some relief. A very few aspirants are blessed with the keen intellect to stick to this science which leads ultimately to eternal happiness and bliss. Various scientists have discovered that during our lifetime we use only 10% of our brain, the rest 90% goes waste. Yoga offers us an opportunity to explore our own innate potential. With the practice of asanas and pranayams the body becomes healthy and minds calms down. All the negative thinking gradually changes into positive by including the different practices of pratyahara like yoganidra and antarmouna.
Treading on this journey of self exploration, one tends to lose patience but if one sticks to it with perseverance, the results start motivating the practioner. A round peg cannot be fitted into a square hole. Similarly each individual is born with unique traits and personality. Even two sisters differ in their likes and dislikes. Yoga teaches us to become aware of our own strengths, weakness, ambitions and needs. Paramhansa Swami Niranjanand Saraswati has written about ‘SWAN’ in his book yog panorama. ‘S’ stands for strength. ‘W’ stands for weakness. ‘A’ stands for ambitions. ‘N’ stands for needs. By improving our strengths and eradicating weaknesses, we slowly start discriminating between our ambitions and needs. And with this discovery, our vision becomes clear and we can accept the life as it comes. One thus learns to live with one’s own strengths and weaknesses, by accepting them fully. That is how; we discover our own inner true potential and live life to the fullest.

FAILURE: A stepping stone to Success

6/28/2011

Picture
Failure comes as a shock to most of the people. The main causes of failure are in disciplined life style, laziness and lack of hard work. But the consequences of failure are devastating. Mentally one becomes deeply depressed leading to self-withdrawal, low morale and all time low confidence. One may put brave front from outside, but mentally, he is shattered. Sometime feeling of guilt shame and fear of recurrence goes so deep that one tries to commit suicide. Most of the people find escapism best way to cope with the problem. Only a few courageous failures stand up to face it boldly and try to analyze it and thus find a way out. Failure should never be considered a negative achievement. Or course initially it is very difficult to accept it. But it must be accepted boldly and steps should be taken to change it into positive push. By regular introspection, right counseling, sincere hard work failure can definitely be converted into success. The person who has faced it can become an example for others by his own hard work and sincerity. Many successful people have tasted failure in the initial stages of their lives. Only failures can understand the full impact and value of success. They can also understand the plight of other failures and can handle them with compassion by gently guiding others to succeed by their own deep faith. The person who has gone through this ordeal dose not become proud easily and is ready to face the life’s ups and down boldly. One after coming out of this phase, most of them if intelligent and sincere definitely do better than many others around them. I strongly feel that failure should be considered a stepping stone to success and not as a sign of one’s mental weakness. Whenever depression strikes you ask yourself.

“Shall I fall on bended knees and wait for someone to bless me with happiness and a life of golden dreams? “ No, I shall run into the desert of life with my arms open, sometimes falling, sometimes stumbling, but always picking myself up, a thousand times if necessary, sometimes, happily. Often life will burns me. Often life will caress me tenderly, and complications and obstacles shall haunt many of my days and there will be moments so beautiful that my soul shall weep in ecstasy. I shall be a witness, but never shall I run or turn from life or from me’’
                                                                                                                                   By swami satyananda

DEPRESSION: A Monster

6/28/2011

Picture
The great big monster of depression has enveloped the being of man in modern times. As life has become very fast, every one is running. Either one wants to fulfill one’s desires which are perpetuated by high set aims and aspiration or running after material comforts. There is no respite from this unending rat race. No one has time to pay even a little attention to one’s own self. What am I running after? Even if I am lucky to achieve my aim (which most of times is related to materialistic achievements) is it worth? Would I be able to enjoy its fruit? And at    what cost? What about my own happiness? It is dependent on the acquisition of a car, scooter or latest gadget? There no time to think about these questions. The vicious circle of Desire - Aim - unfulfillment of many of them – remorse disease – depression has not spared even the intelligent educated people. I often look at my maid servant who in spite of having limited possessions is extremely happy most of the times. This does not mean that we should not set aims and desires motivate one to lead a happy and contented life. But in modern times the fine line of demarcation between one’s own capabilities and high set goals is sadly missing. And I am surprised as well as very sad to note that even young children are not spared from this. When I had the opportunity to handle many children during a children yoga camp organized in Bhilai. Yogashram, I discovered that anger, anxiety, tension and depression have become a part and parcel of their life. Even young children of age ten years are not spared from this. The unhealthy pressure of modern environment has snatched their childhood from them. At an age when they should have been playing, enjoying themselves, they are overloaded by pressure. This pressure is curbing their innate genius, creativity. And many of them who are unable to cope up are rendered helpless in the section of a proper aim for themselves. They are attacked by demons of fear, tension and anger. And I remember my own childhood full of joys, happiness.
What a carefree life we have lived as children. And those memories still linger in my mind and I cherish them even today. And I must add here that academically I was an excellent student with a distinction.  Many gold and silver medals are my precious possession even today. It is high time that we all take stock of our own selves and become aware of our values, capabilities and priorities. Materialistic approach should not be the end all. Comforts are necessary but unnecessary hoarding, running after them madly must be checked, contentment is a great virtue. Our ancestors have left this great legacy which we have sadly forgotten. India is a country of great moral values. It is a land of Rama, Krishna and Buddha. All these saints had plenty of wealth as they were princes but they lived a life which still is a source of inspiration to millions around the globe.
Wake up now! Get out of this vicious circle which is only leading mankind to doom. Demons like depression, anger, anxiety are eating the very root of society as Deemak eats the root of even a big tree. And tree becomes hollow and falls slowly and gradually. Let us all learn a few lessons from illiterate, innocent people of villages, who are much happier than us. They are gifted with the treasure of contentment, happiness and bliss. They derive happiness from their small achievements enjoy each and every moment of life as it comes. And most important is that they live in present. They do not have time to brood on the past, nor do they plan too much about their future. They live this precious life exactly like a bud. The bud unfolds and blooms into a beautiful flower, taking its own time. No one can manipulate it. Similarly all of us must use the manure of hard work, sincerity, patience and enjoy the fruit of happiness and contentment in the soil of life. Let us not pollute our life by the present scenario, which is the precursor of tension, depression and other many maladies. Deep faith in the god goes a long way in deriving all unnecessary maladies from our life. Let us all resolve to make India proud of its citizens by following our own ancient Indian heritage. And this very heritage will lead us to happiness, bliss and contentment which are our birth rights.
