MY EXPERIENCES OF ‘CHICKEN GUINEA’

On 8th September ’2011, I woke up with severe pain in my various joints and with high fever which went up to 101.5F. Doctor prescribed chloroquine assuming it Malaria though my MP test was negative. After a complete course of medicines my fever came down to 100'F but persisted. My stomach is very weak due to consumption of steroids and many strong medicines a few years back. In spite of antacids my diet was reduced & I started losing weight. A number of tests including typhoid were done and all were normal. We went from one doctor to an other, who prescribed few more courses of antibiotics which caused havoc with my stomach.
The pattern of fever continued 98’F in the morning, 99’F in the afternoon and 100’F in the evening. During this period of 45 days I tried to keep my mental moral high though it was a Herculean task. I tried ayurvedic and unani medicines also. The only solace I derived was during my mantra repletion and reinforcing teachings of my Guru Swami Niranjananda. For the benefit of readers I would like to write them.1.     Accept pain and pleasure with equanimity as gift of God.2.     Keep your mind cool in pain and unfavorable conditions.3.     You can keep your body and mind separate by repeating “I am not this body, I am not this mind, and I am eternal immortal satchidanand Atama.” In the beginning it is difficult but with practice and faith, one can feel the truth of this Vedantic statement.
4.     Life is a mixture of ups and downs.5.     Pain is a gift of God for only during miserable times one remembers God.6.     Kirtan soothed my tattered nerves to a great extent and gave me solace in the dark sleepless nights.7.     Many times I repeated, “I am going to be healthy soon and get back to work.”  “If mind is intensely eager to achieve, everything can be accomplished; even the mountains can be crumbled to atoms.” – Swami Vivekananda. After 1 ½ months an Indian wild herb Bel (Giloy) helped me in getting rid of fever.Method to use it.Soak a 2 inches piece of bel and one tsp ajiwan in a cup of water overnight. Crush it in mixer. Sieve and boil water for 2 minutes. Drink while it is warm. Continue it for 10 days. (It has to taken empty stomach).
The mild joint pain still lingers but with practice yogasnas and pranayamas regularly which are helping a lot both physically and mentally. My mind has become calm and tranquil and I am able to detach myself from this disease to a great extent.
