I reached U.S.A. on 9th April to enjoy the childhood of my grand daughter.It was quite cold in the months of april & may. As the time flew away I tried to adjust to new environment & different ways of life.Visiting different places of sightseeing on weekends I enjoyed the beauty of Seattle which is a hill station situated on the bank of Pacific ocean. An old lady aged 65 years met me and talked about her fears,negative thinking. she had tried psychitaric treatment but it did not help. side effects of different allopathic medicine worsened her health.she became very nervous due to shaking of her hands, stomach churning,frequent visits to toilet, panic attacks and thus lost her self confidence. One of her aunts had become insane when she was a young girl. she kept on imagining that she might become like her.All sorts of imaginary fears stole her sleep as well as peace of mind. she was consuming sleeping pills on alternate days and sometimes daily also.
I started her conselling and taught her simple practices of pawan mukta asanas so that her hands and legs will become stronger. I told her to keep mind busy in doing mantra japa of diety of her own choice, writing the chosen mantra. I asked her to listen to kirtans, stotrams,bhajans of her choice. Also I taught her daindini sadhna given by paramhansa swami niranjanananda which includes 11 times mahamrityunjaya mantra, 11 times gayatri mantra & 3 times 32 names of durga. she did all these practices twice daily with faith & sincerety. In each class I told her to replace her negative thoughts and fears by positive thoughts. various meditation practics of ajapa-jap, yognidra, antar mouna(inner silence) helped her greatly to overcome her fears and negativity. After nearly 10 classes(two classes per week) she visited her doctor. The doctor was amazed at her improvement and advised her to continue Yoga & meditation. She has stopped taking her sleeping pill & other sedatives. Her selfconfidence has come back for she has started driving her car again. Her sincerety, regularity & faith has helped her in reversing the tide of depression.By grace of God she is coming back to her old normal self. She pledges to pass on her experience to others who are suffering like her. I feel blessed to be able to help her come out of self made pit of darkness of negativity & depression. Her faith in God has increased tremendously & she has new light in her eyes for she has a direction & a new goal of SEVA( SELFLESS SERVICE) now.
